What equipment is needed to exclude a pigeon?
The equipment needed to exclude a pigeon depends on where you are excluding a pigeon from. Some buildings don't have holes or openings that let birds in, but they do have ledges and other areas where pigeons like to roost. In these areas, bird netting and/or spikes can be placed to deter birds from landing and setting up shop. These spikes and nets can be purchased online or from local professional companies, or, if you're handy, you can research them and build some yourself. The next level of pigeon exclusion takes place when birds have gotten inside of a structure. Thankfully, birds like to be outside, so they aren't going to spend every moment inside. When they leave is when they need to be excluded, and most people opt for something called a one-way exclusion funnel. These funnels are simple in design, and basically let the birds out but offer no way for them to fly back into the hole. They key to this, however, is to make sure there is no way for the birds to gain access back inside. The area around the funnel has to be sealed up completely. Ideally, no ledges for birds to land should be left open in this area.
